One Spurs Player Benefits Most from Offseason Moves, It’s Not Victor Wembanyama originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Between Victor Wembanyama, Luke Kornet, and Kelly Olynyk, there’s a strong argument to be made that the San Antonio Spurs have one of the best frontcourt rotations in the NBA.

Only the LA Clippers, with Ivica Zubac, Brook Lopez, and John Collins, and the Denver Nuggets, with Nikola Jokic, Jonas Valanciunas, and promising youngster DeRon Holmes II, are clearly better than the Spurs.
While Wembanyama will certainly benefit from two reliable backups behind him in the depth chart, one of his young teammates will finally be able to thrive.
With three bigs who can space the floor, a surplus of point guards, and wing talents like Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Julian Champagnie, Keldon Johnson, and Carter Bryant all on the roster, Jeremy Sochan can finally slot into his natural position: a bruising, defense-first power forward.
In his short three-year career, Sochan has been tasked with running point, playing center, and being a defensive stud. He has really only thrived in the last role, but with Kornet, Olynyk, Harper, and Fox all in town, he should be able to play his natural position.

It remains to be seen if he will crack the starting lineup to start the season, although he is one of the very best defenders on the roster, excluding Wembanyama, of course.
While Sochan’s offensive game is incomplete thanks to his unreliable outside shot, he is solid in the paint, an elite defender, an underrated rebounder, and a solid secondary defender, even if he shouldn’t be bringing the ball up the court.
Whenever the Spurs had a question mark in the lineup, Sochan has been tasked with being the answer, preventing him from playing a consistent role and realizing his potential. Out of everyone on the team, he should be the happiest with the offseason thus far.
