(WJHL) — Gate City’s Mac McClung is still in search of a new home in the NBA after becoming an unrestricted free agent on July 3rd.
The release came after the Orlando Magic withdrew their qualifying offer for the 2023-2024 G-League MVP. The three-time NBA slam dunk contest champion averaged 26 points and 6 assists per game this past season while shooting 51 percent from the field and 38% from three.
It has always been an uphill battle for the 6’2 guard, but nothing is going to stop the former Blue Devil from staying confident and prepared for when his name is called.

“I don’t know if surprise would be the word I think, you know. Like my first year, someone said, like, You deserve nothing in this league. Like, it’s such an interesting league that it’s like you just adapt and you be ready when you’re name is called. I can’t, you know, feel like you know, obviously I feel like I can help the team.
But that’s not up to me. You know what I mean? So, I’m just ready for whatever, man, and each time I don’t get that opportunity, I’m just building to get ready for it more, and I’m not having a grudge or be like, oh this should happen. I’m just like, hey, maybe that’s not the time. Like when it’s supposed to, it will, says McClung.”
Although McLung is not sure if he will compete in the dunk contest again, his mission remains the same as he is putting in the work, staying ready for his next opportunity.
