Hope you held your Cooper Flagg stock.

It’s natural to overreact to Summer League basketball, especially the debut of a number 1 overall pick. Flagg had just 10 points in his debut versus the Lakers and didn’t hit a single three point shot. The magnifying glass was even stronger given a matchup versus LA and Bronny James.  But Flagg projects to be much closer to the elder James than the son and we saw that in his second summer league performance.

Flagg dropped 31 points in a 76-69 loss to the Spurs in Las Vegas. It was a slow start again for Flagg, but he picked it up in the second quarter where he scored 12 of his 15 first half points, including his first three of the summer league.  Flagg looked particularly effective reading the pick and roll.

In the second half Flagg showed his transition game throwing down a lob from Ryan Nembard and only continued his dominance from there. Flagg was the majority of Dallas’ offense, which was the problem as the Spurs pulled away for the victory. No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper had 16 points in his summer league debut for San Antonio.

Yeah, I think this Flagg fella is going to be just fine in the NBA.
