Ulrich Chomche rarely played key minutes in his rookie season.

He was a raw selection by the Toronto Raptors with the No. 57 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, two spots after Bronny James. And then he suffered a partial proximal ACL tear late in the season, which didn’t help.

But at Las Vegas Summer League, Chomche is looking like a guy who could contribute.

Through two games, he has 19 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and two blocks.

Chomche is also hoping to improve at the little things.

He told The Athletic’s Eric Koreen that he watched video of 7-foot-6 NBA legend Yao Ming to figure out how to improve his screening.

Chomche’s most tantalizing attribute might be his 7-foot-4 wingspan. That’s the kind of trait Toronto has prioritized in recent years, and it’s the type of length that could get Chomche on the floor more often this season.

First, he’ll hope to use the rest of Summer League to continue improving his game and fitting into team concepts. If he can do that, he can eventually be a key bench piece for the Raptors.
