A former Husker delivered a swift performance off the bench Monday in the NBA Summer League. Jack McVeigh scored 21 points off the bench to help the Atlanta Hawks take down the Houston Rockets 111-108 in overtime.
McVeigh shot 8-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc for his best game so far. He scored seven points in his first game of the Summer League against the Miami Heat but didn’t play in the team’s game against the Phoenix Suns.
McVeigh took off in the fourth for the Hawks when he single-handedly turned a 93-84 deficit into a 93-92 game. He finished the quarter scoring 10 points for Atlanta, helping the team force overtime with the Rockets.
McVeigh is one of four Huskers currently playing in the NBA Summer League, which includes Keisei Tominaga (Indiana Pacers), Brice Williams (Detroit Pistons), and Juwan Gary (Los Angeles Clippers).
McVeigh got picked up by the Hawks for the Summer League after spending his rookie season with the Rockets. He played nine games for Houston and the team’s G-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, last season.
McVeigh played three seasons at Nebraska before returning to his home country of Australia, where he spent time in the NBL from 2018 to 2024.
McVeigh and the Hawks will play one more game on Thursday before the playoffs begin on Saturday. The Hawks face the Memphis Grizzlies at 5 p.m. on Thursday on NBA TV.
