MANCHESTER, N.H. —

The Boston Celtics selected 19-year-old Hugo Gonzalez with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the NBA draft Wednesday night.

The 6-foot-6 wing from Spain has been playing in the EuroLeague and spent last season with Real Madrid.

Though his playing time was limited on an experienced team, he averaged five points and three rebounds per game.

“Just big fan of how he plays. He’s tough, he’s hard playing, he cuts, he goes after the ball, he competes. He’s got all the intangibles of a winning basketball player,” president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said.

The pick comes after a flurry of offseason trades that sent Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis out of Boston within a 24-hour span.

The Celtics held on to stars Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.

Boston also holds the 32nd overall pick, which will be made Thursday.
