The Houston Rockets fell to 0-3 in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday night after a 111-108 overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks, but former Washington Huskies star Great Osobor had his best performance yet.

After posting just 2 points and 4 rebounds, adding an assist and a steal against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, Osobor saw a big uptick in minutes after the Rockets chose to shut down Reed Sheppard, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, playing 24 minutes in the contest.

The All-Big Ten Honorable Mention neared a double-double in the loss, contributing 8 points on a 3-for-6 shooting performance, and 9 rebounds with 2 assists and a block. He was also whistled for 3 fouls and turned the ball over twice on the night.

Former Mississippi State forward Cameron Matthews ate into Osobor’s workload on Monday, playing 30 minutes and tallying 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in the contest.

The Rockets have a somewhat crowded frontcourt already, with forwards Jabari Smith and Tari Eason, along with centers Alperen Sengun, Steven Adams, and N’Faly Dante taking up the majority of the minutes at the position. However, that doesn’t mean that the Rockets or another team couldn’t sign Osobor to a two-way, G-League, or even possibly an NBA contract if they like what they see from him.

Osobor will have one more opportunity to prove himself worthy of one of those opportunities in Las Vegas on Thursday, when the Rockets take on the Portland Trailblazers.
