The Boston Celtics trade rumors have been running rampant all offseason. When Jayson Tatum went down with his Achilles tear, everyone expected the Celtics to make some major adjustments. They’ve already traded away two key players from their 2024 championship team. This Celtics trade proposal sends out another key player for some solid value.

@Andrew_Fenichel posted a Fanspo trade idea on Twitter where the Celtics traded with their 2024 NBA Finals foe, the Dallas Mavericks. The trade looks like this:

Celtics trade: Derrick White, Xavier Tillman

Mavericks trade: Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, 2029 first-round pick (via LAL), 2032 first-round pick

There have been plenty of Derrick White trade rumors this offseason. Many are expecting that now that Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday are gone, he is safe, but this trade could actually be worth looking into for Boston.

The Celtics would grab two firsts, as well as decently young and talented big men from Dallas. With Porzingis gone and Al Horford likely leaving as well, the Celtics will need some big men to support Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The question is, is Derrick White worth losing? Neither of these first-round picks projects to be amazing, and White is such a key cog to the Celtics’ core.

Since the Celtics likely won’t be competing for a championship next season, a trade like this is worth taking the risk on. Not only does it grab them two firsts, but also future flexibility in the expiring contract of Washington and a reasonable price of Gafford.
