Summer League Standout Could Join Indiana Pacers’ Rotation originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

After losing Myles Turner in free agency and Tyrese Haliburton to injury, the Indiana Pacers are poised to have a lost season next year.

There is hope that they will be able to return to contention in 2026-27, but that’s too far away to make any realistic projections. Next season, the Pacers will have big questions to answer at both the center and point guard positions.

While Andrew Nembhard can certainly step into a bigger playmaking role next season, the Pacers are hoping to turn at least one overlooked player into a reliable option.

Second-round draft picks Kam Jones and Taelon Peter might be viable, although they have been outplayed by one second-year player and G League star.

RayJ Dennis averaged 2.7 points and 1.3 assists in limited action with the Pacers last season, although he dominated the G League, averaging 22.1 points and 8.8 assists to go with 34 percent shooting from deep.

In the Summer League, he has posted 16 points and six assists per contest through three games and improved his outside shot.

While those numbers won’t necessarily translate to NBA success, he and fellow Summer star Johnny Furphy will likely get more than their fair share of minutes next season, as the Pacers use the year to determine who has a long-term role on the team and who will be dangled as trade bait before the February deadline.

If Dennis can prove that his standout performances are more than just a fluke and he can keep producing against better opponents, it’s hard to imagine him spending any time in the G League next year, instead running point for the Pacers.
