This one’s for you, Nuggets Nation.

When the Denver Nuggets traded for Cam Johnson earlier in the offseason, the fans were excited to get a fresh start with a new forward alongside Nikola Jokic. While parting ways with Michael Porter Jr. had some emotions tagged with it, the move was the right decision, and the fanbase was pumped for what they were getting in Johnson.

Johnson spoke as a Nugget for the first time on Friday afternoon, and he instantly talked about the positive support he’s gotten from the fanbase and how he’s loving the feedback from them with a smile on his face.

“There’s a lot for me to learn about the city and there’s a lot for me to learn about the fans the Nuggets,” Johnson said. “So far, the reception has been incredible. I’m in random places where I wouldn’t expect to find any Nuggets fans and it’s like ‘Ohhh! Go Nuggets! We’re excited!’ It’s been all over the place no matter where I’ve been over the last couple of weeks. So, that’s really encouraging, that’s really encouraging and it’s really promising.”

It’s no question that Nuggets fans are some of the best in the NBA. They always fill up Ball Arena, they show up to bars around town whenever there’s a watch party, and they make that arena extra loud come playoff time. If the Nuggets ownership wanted to hand out T-shirts for every playoff game like some franchises do, that would be the only way for the fanbase to be better.

“When we play for the fans, it really gives you something to be prideful of. That’s a huge perk of playing in Denver that jumped out at me,” Johnson said.

He then shared a story of when eating at a breakfast restaurant near his home in Arizona just after the trade happened, a group of elderly fans came up to him and started telling him about how excited they were to have him in the blue and gold. He said that one lady was almost crying.

Johnson also showed Nuggets fans that he’s not just here to have a good time, he wants to win and compete — especially after not having the chance to do so in Brooklyn with the Nets for the last couple of seasons.

“The excitement around it has been really positive for me … a chance at winning is something that I really relish, and something that I will do everything in my power to contribute to,” Johnson said.
