Former College Player Delivers Verdict on Victor Wembanyama Passing Giannis Antetokounmpo originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Since breaking out in 2016-17, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the most dominant player in the NBA on both ends of the floor. While Victor Wembanyama is a better defender and shooter than Giannis, they physical dominance is hard to beat.

However, as the league prepares for Wembanyama to return from a blood clot diagnosis next season, the San Antonio Spurs are expected to take the league by storm, entirely thanks to Wembanyama’s unique skillset.
With expectations at an all-time high, Wemby might take the throne as the most dominant player in the league at only 22 years old.
“What you need to think about is the 7-foot-5 two-guard jump shooter, who may have added some post play to his game, who may have added some things to his game that we haven’t seen, who has gotten better defensively,” said Jermaine Womack on the Players’ Choice podcast.

“This San Antonio team that may turn into something that some of us think they can be, that they end up being a top-five seed in the West. And he’s the best defensive player in the game.”
Wembanyama’s defensive dominance is already apparent, although Antetokounmpo is no slouch.
However, on offense, Wembanyama could take a leap. While Giannis has imporved his jumpshot and is a reliabe midrange shooter, he doesn’t space the floor beyond the arc. Both can score in traffic, although Wembanyama can shoot over any would-be defnder in the league.

The Spurs, unlike the Milwaukee Bucks, have added playmaking in De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle, which should give Wemby added support on the offensive end while he takes a defensive leap, entering all-time great territory already.
