Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

We start this series with a look at Calvin Garrett, who wore jersey No. 00 for the Purple and Gold.
Garrett was a 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward who came to Los Angeles in 1983 as a free agent after spending three previous seasons with the Houston Rockets. He played four years of college basketball — two with Austin Peay State University in Tennessee and two with Oral Roberts University — and averaged 17.0 points and 6.7 rebounds a game.
He played one season with the Lakers and appeared in 41 games while averaging 4.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per contest and shooting 51.3% from the field. He played his last game with them on Feb. 26, 1984, and didn’t suit up for them, or any other NBA team, again.
