Delaney Gibb named to Canada Women’s National Team Athlete Pool
The sophomore guard, who won Big 12 Freshman of the Year in her first season at BYU, will be part of the Senior National Team for Canada and the U23 team in the build-up to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.
“I am so excited for the future of Canada Basketball and beyond grateful to have been selected into this senior national team athlete pool,” said Delaney Gibb. “Playing for Canada Basketball has always brought me so much pride and joy. My biggest dream has been to represent Team Canada in the Olympics, so having the opportunity to train with the senior team for this upcoming year means the world to me.”
Canada Basketball hired a new head coach in Nell Fortner and laid out the framework of the program and player expectations around commitment, accountability, and culture.
Minnesota Lynx forward and Canadian Senior Women’s Team member Bridget Carleton said, “We were clear about what this program needs to reach the next level — and that started with setting our own standards for commitment and accountability. This isn’t just about how we show up, but how we push toward something bigger.”
BYU women’s basketball star
Gibb was one of the best freshmen in women’s college basketball last season.
She led BYU in scoring at 17.4 points and assists with 4.1 dimes per game.
The 5-foot-10 guard also grabbed 5.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.3% from the field and 39.5% from beyond the arc.
Gibb is among six active college basketball players in Canada’s National Team Athlete Pool.
