It was another tough loss for Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky yesterday, but the WNBA found a silver lining for them which many other fans did not appreciate.

Chicago lost to the Minnesota Lynx 91-68 yesterday, dropping Chicago to 7-16 on the season. But over the course of the game, Reese was able to secure 11 points with 11 rebounds.

According to the WNBA, that was her 10th straight double-double, which made her the first player in league history to enjoy two streaks with 10-plus double-doubles.

“Angel Reese Makes HISTORY… Again! Angel Reese drops her 10th straight double-double, becoming the only player in WNBA history with multiple streaks of 10+ double-doubles. She currently has 11 PTS and 10 REB vs. the Lynx,” the WNBA announced.

But basketball fans (with some straight-up WNBA haters) quickly criticized the WNBA for highlighting the good without highlighting either her excessive turnovers (nine) or the team’s 23-point loss.

“Stat padding her meaningless double double during a 20 point blow out,” one user wrote with a laughing emoji.

“Damn she only had to come in for 10 minutes in a 25 point blowout to get those final 4 points. Oh and 9 turnovers,” wrote another.

“Lmao this fraud just about hit a triple double with turnovers,” a third wrote.

“And 9 turnovers (leading the league again this year) and was a -20 in another loss. The only stat that matters is a W.”

“Did the Sky win though?? Of course not. Only focusing on double doubles when she’s halfway through her 2nd year and has yet to win 20 games!”

“They just lost by 23, I assumed she wasn’t even playing until I saw this post. Actually I thought they were all still on break.”

People seem to forget that there can be good or even great players on average or bad teams.

Even the Michael Jordan Bulls didn’t enjoy a winning season until MJ’s third year in the league, and it wasn’t until the Bulls surrounded him with Hall of Fame players that they finally won an NBA championship.

That’s not to compare Reese to Michael Jordan, but the cupboard is certainly about as barren in Chicago now as it was for Chicago early in MJ’s career and the win-loss total reflects it.
