Once the NBA calendar comes around to mid-July, there’s typically not that much going on with the Toronto Raptors.
With the Summer League, the bulk of free agency, and the NBA Draft now in the rearview mirror, the news around the team often grinds to a halt by this time of the year.
However, one storyline that continues to unfold is the new “team logo” designed by a creator known to the world as @nba_paint.
The @nba_paint account has grown to over 260,000 followers on X for its humorous takes on the league, often whipping up a quick drawing within minutes of a viral play or a trend within the basketball world.
Earlier this summer, the popular social media user redesigned the Raptors logo to be as basic as possible, using either Microsoft Paint or a similar computer application.
The Raptors showed some love to the drawing, and it got such intense feedback that the team opted to make it their profile photo on X.
That was a little over two weeks ago, and the profile photo remains the @nba_paint creation. Keeping the logo in place was at least partially due to Toronto’s strong run in the Summer League to the semifinals, as they clearly didn’t want to mess with a good thing.
And now, the team is selling merchandise featuring the logo, with shirts and hats available via the team store on Real Sports.

If you’re looking for a few more options, the official store of @nba_paint is also selling merch with that logo and a few previously designed options.
Who is the designer of the silly Raptors logo?
For the time being, that question might remain a mystery, as @nba_paint has chosen to remain anonymous.
“I find it easy in the fact that there’s so much going on that it makes it easy to build content and it’s such a passionate community, specifically on [X], which makes it all fun to engage with people who are super passionate as well in being and talking in that specific space,” the @nba_paint creator said in a 2024 interview with ESPN.
So while we might never know what the genius looks like, we’ll always have their masterpiece art to look upon fondly.
