Schenectady, N.Y. — For the fourth straight summer, the Siena Basketball programs (Men’s and Women’s) have decided to give back to a local Capital Region Community by refurbishing a public basketball court.

The Siena Basketball Court Rehab Dedication and Ice Cream Social also serves as the first opportunity for Saints fans to meet, mingle, and even shoot around with members of the 2025-26 men’s and women’s squads on the newly refurbished Girls. Inc. basketball court. Each team knows the importance of giving back, and through doing this, the Saints are creating a safe space for the youth in the Schenectady area, or even the surrounding areas, to play the game they love.

Men’s head coach, Gerry McNamara, was unable to attend Thursday’s event due to sickness. CBS6 Sports spoke to GMac on Zoom Wednesday afternoon to talk about the event itself, how his team has been coming along in the summer workouts and what the motto is for this year’s group.

While at the event, Women’s head coach Terry Primm stopped by to express what it means to give back to the community in a way that keeps kids safe while also growing the game of basketball. Primm, also in year two at the helm, said his group have been getting better and better one day at a time, with the MAAC Championship always on their mind.

Previous beneficiaries have been Lansing Park in Cohoes (2022), Cheryl’s Lodge, a program of CAPTAIN Community Human Services in Clifton Park (2023), and the George Street Basketball Court in Green Island (2024). The court rehab project helps fulfill Siena Athletics’ mission to “Build Better Saints,” while embracing the College’s Franciscan values by giving back to the local community.
