FLINT, Mich. — The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament is set to make its return to Flint this weekend.
The popular 3-on-3 basketball event, which originated in Michigan in 1974, has grown to become the third-largest event in the Flint area.
Last year’s tournament attracted 170 teams and nearly 7,000 spectators over the course of two days.
Coach Linnell McKenney says this year’s event has got everything.
“We got the slam-dunk contest, 3-point contest, free throw contest. We are going to be giving away prizes. We got a resource fair. Man, we got everything.”
The tournament will kick off Saturday in downtown Flint. Organizers are still looking for volunteers.
