The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team is one of the dominant teams in college basketball history. In terms of wins, conference championships, and conference tournament championships, they have also ruled the SEC.

However, if recent rumors are true, the Wildcats could soon be joined in the SEC by another one of college basketball’s historically dominant programs: the North Carolina Tarheels.

In recent days, rumors have circulated that North Carolina could be seeking to leave the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for the SEC. Per Inside Carolina, behind the scenes, leadership at the university could have their eyes on a move as the cost of exit fees drop in the next few years.

A move wouldn’t happen for a few more years, and perhaps as late as five years from now, when the exit fee drops to its lowest schedule point. It could also not happen at all.

The Wildcats and Tarheels have met a number of times over the years. North Carolina leads the series overall 25-18, but it has been a competitive series. Having the two teams play every year as conference rivals would be terrific.

For now, the move is nothing more than a rumor, and thus, nothing to get excited over just yet. It’s something to follow though, as time goes on.
