Jonathan Kuminga isn’t rushing into making a decision regarding his next contract, despite the Golden State Warriors potentially being stuck in limbo until he does. The former lottery pick has reportedly been drawing interest from the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls, as they eye a potential sign-and-trade to pry him away from the Bay Area.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, who was speaking via ESPN 1320 Sacramento, Kuminga has already held talks with the Kings front office and has been interested in the role on offer, along with the overall pitch. Slater also noted that Kuminga is more focused on the on-court role he will receive, rather than the monetary value of his next deal.
“Kuminga had contact with the Kings in the last couple of days,” Slater said. “It was the first time he met Scott Perry, and this wasn’t in person, but it’s the first time he’s communicated with Scott Perry, Doug Christie and B.J. Armstrong. And from what I’ve gathered, he liked the pitch that Scott Perry gave. He’s open-minded to the idea of Sacramento…I think part of that — I know part of that pitch — is you’re talking starting role, you’re talking bigger opportunity than the Warriors are necessarily offering right now. And I think that’s the part that shouldn’t get lost in this situation. Jonathan Kuminga isn’t just looking for the exact contract he wants in free agency. He’s looking for the opportunity he wants on the court.”
When given the chance, Kuminga has impressed for the Warriors. However, Steve Kerr has be unable to carve out a consistent spot in his rotation for the explosive forward, which is something that appears to have led to Kuminga’s current stance in his first foray into restricted free agency.

Nevertheless, any team looking to acquire Kuminga will need to produce a compelling trade offer to Golden State, and as things stand, no offers have been reported. Therefore, Kuminga and the Warriors remain in a stalemate, with no end in sight.
