The Philadelphia 76ers selected VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft. Adding a young player like him is a big piece for the future as the Sixers look to bounce back from a miserable 24-58 season that was decimated by injury.

Edgecombe was limited to only two games in the summer league as he was limited by a left thumb sprain, but the rookie showed what he is capable of in those performances which should excite the Sixers as they move forward. The 19-year-old guard is expected to give Philadelphia some good production on both ends of the floor.

Edgecombe hopped on the latest episode of “Podcast P with Paul George” and his new star teammate gave him some advice as he gets set to enter the league. George told Edgecombe:

My advice is just watch film. Like, you’ll realize it’s a tendency league. A lot of guys operate off tendencies that you can pick up on, which makes it a lot easier on you. Some dudes, is you’re gonna play against a Ky (rie Irving) you’re gonna play against a Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander), like, Anthony Edwards. Those dudes, they’re so good with the body, and they’re so elusive that it’s hard to kind of predict what they’re gonna do, and you know, they’re just so good. They’ve seen every defense, all defenders, but for the most part, is a lot of guys go off tendency. So if you understand what the tendencies are, and you put that into what the team defense is, it’s an easy job, you know what I mean? But just take the challenge, you know what I mean? take the challenge. It’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be nights when they can just cook you, and you gotta live with it! It’s gonna fuel you the next time you strap up against them that it’s gonna be a different showdown.

George isn’t wrong in that respect. The NBA has a lot of legitimate stars who can score 40 or 50 against any type of defense. That’s how good these guys are. Edgecombe is going to have to be ready for that, and who better to learn from than a 9-time All-Star like George, who has been through the battles in this league. As long as Edgecombe continues to take the advice from his star teammates, then he is going to be OK as he begins his transition to the league.
