The Boston Celtics officially signed second-round pick Max Shulga to a two-way contract on Wednesday according to the NBA transactions log. Shulga was the No. 57 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft that Boston acquired in a deal with the Orlando Magic. Boston traded away the No. 32 overall pick for four future second-round picks including No. 46 and No. 57 on draft night. Jonathan Givony reported on draft night that it was expected Shulga would be signed to a two-way.

The 6-foot-4 guard was a standout at Utah State for three seasons before transferring for his final two years of collegiate play at VCU. In his senior season, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 39.2 percent from 3-point range. He was also named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year and led VCU to a tournament berth.

Shulga took part in five games for the Summer League Celtics this month in Las Vegas, posting 5.0 points and 3.8 assists in 21 minutes per game as Boston put together a 4-1 record. Despite some strong defense (1.8 steals per game), Shulga struggled with his shot in Las Vegas (24.1 percent shooting).

The Celtics are also expected to sign their other second-round pick, Amari Williams, to a two-way contract after drafting him at No. 46 overall in the NBA Draft. Shulga, Williams and Miles Norris are projected to fill Boston’s three two-way roster slots for next season.

A two-way player is eligible to appear in 50 regular season games next year for Boston, but the contract ($636,435) does not count against the salary cap for Boston. The Celtics are currently $17 million over the luxury tax line for next season after releasing JD Davison last week. Shulga currently slots in behind Derrick White, Payton Pritchard and Anfernee Simons on the team’s backcourt depth chart.
