The Monroe Central basketball team were honored at the Ohio Statehouse by State Senator Brian Chavez on Wednesday.

COLUMBUS–State Senator Brian Chavez (R-Marietta) recognized the Monroe Central High School Boys Basketball Team for winning the OHSAA Division VI State Championship.

“This is a remarkable group of student-athletes,” said Senator Chavez. “I’ve seen firsthand that the community is incredibly proud, and I enthusiastically join them in celebrating this fantastic accomplishment. I look forward to watching their future accomplishments on and off the court.”

The Seminoles beat Maria Stein Marion Local High School in a 43-35 victory on March 22nd, becoming the first Ohio team in the Ohio Valley conference to win a title since 1943. The team ended their championship season with a 26-3 record.
