It was a busy day on the Maryland basketball recruiting front on Wednesday, as Buzz Williams and his staff saw significant movement with multiple top-100 prospects in the 2026 class. The biggest news of the day: as expected, blue-chip guard Junior County has locked in an official visit to Maryland.

County, the No. 2-ranked shooting guard in the country and No. 27 overall in 247Sports’ Class of 2026 rankings, will officially visit Maryland on Sept. 19. The Terps join a list of finalists that also includes Indiana, Arizona, UConn, and Purdue for the 6-foot-4 guard who’s steadily elevated his stock with the Utah Prospects this summer. Maryland has been one of the most consistent presences in his recruitment—building continuity from Buzz Williams’ time at Texas A&M and making County a central focus during the live periods.

“Maryland has definitely been consistent,” County told IMS “We’ve been getting on a lot of Zooms, and they’ve been showing me things about their new campus since moving from Texas A&M.”

Another development came from four-star point guard Trey Beamer, who cut his list to five schools, with Maryland making the cut alongside USF, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. A 6-foot-1 lead guard from IMG Academy, Beamer has been one of the most explosive guards on the EYBL circuit this summer. He averaged 19.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game during Nike EYBL Session 4 and put up a 34-point performance earlier this spring.

His decision to include Maryland reinforces the staff’s early prioritization and the inroads Williams made shortly after taking the job. Beamer has already scheduled an official visit to College Park for September 13.

Meanwhile, Darius Bivins of Biship O’Connell (Va.) —the No. 84 player nationally—set official visits to Stanford, USF, Rutgers, and VCU, notably excluding Maryland. While he’s still interested in locking in a trip to College Park per 247Sports’ Dushawn London, the current visit slate suggests Maryland’s interest might’ve cooled a bit in that recruitment. He was one of Maryland’s earliest point guard targets in the class, and the next several weeks will clarify whether the Terps remain in serious contention as he eyes a fall decision. They’re also involved with another standout local point guard from the WCAC, Carroll (D.C.) star Anthony Brown.
