As the Philadelphia 76ers continue with free agency, the only order of business left to handle is Quentin Grimes. The priority is to bring back the restricted free agent, but the stalemate continues for both sides looking to get a deal done.
The restricted free agent market is tough at this stage. All of the money is dried up and the Sixers are just negotiating with themselves really at this point. One anonymous executive did recently question why the Sixers would give Grimes $20 million per year which is reportedly what he is looking for after he averaged 21.9 points per game for Philadelphia after being acquired at the deadline.
Per Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer on a livestream, he stated that there is buzz that Grimes wanting to take the qualifying offer which is good for $8.5 million for the 2025-26 season. If no deal is done, then Oct. 1 is the deadline to sign that qualifying offer. Either way, the goal for the team is to bring him back on some type of deal.
Some other things to know about the QO is that Grimes would automatically get a no-trade clause should he sign it. Then, should Grimes waive it, the team trading for him would then not get Bird rights for him as he enters unrestricted free agency. Essentially, he would be betting on himself and it would be interesting to see how things shake out as free agency continues.
