Magic Johnson is an all-time great player in NBA history obviously. He won five titles with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980’s and reinvented the point guard position.
His insights into basketball are still valuable and worth listening to. So when we saw this video of his favorite six players, we thought it would be worth talking about.
This video has explanations for each choice but some you don’t have to think about all that much. He had an historic rivalry and friendship with Bird that redefined the NBA. Julius Erving was the guy for people of Johnson’s era, who also redefined the league.
Actually, everyone on this list except for Worthy redefined the league in their era.
Worthy and Kareem were his Lakers teammates obviously and both were devastating weapons. If we were a young center, say Victor Wembanyama or Khaman Malauch, we’d be texting and calling the Laker legend to ask him if he’d consider teaching the Skyhook. It is a supreme offensive tool and if a young big man perfected it, it would be as unstoppable for them as it was for Kareem in his day.
