The Denver Nuggets have added depth to their training camp roster, reaching an agreement with free agent forward Kessler Edwards on an Exhibit 10 contract, DallasHoopsJournal.com can confirm.
Edwards, who turned 25 on Saturday, spent the latter part of last season with the Dallas Mavericks, stepping into a larger role during a stretch of significant injuries to the frontcourt.
From Feb. 10 to March 19, he averaged 8.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 24.8 minutes per game, shooting .538 from the field, .486 from three, and .900 from the free-throw line. He started 14 of 16 games during that run before reaching his two-way contract games played limit.
Overall, Edwards appeared in 40 games for Dallas in 2024–25, making 18 starts and averaging 4.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15.2 minutes, with shooting splits of .496/.407/.923. The 6-foot-7 forward, known for his 6-foot-11 wingspan and defensive potential, has logged 178 career games for Brooklyn, Sacramento, and Dallas since being selected 44th overall out of Pepperdine in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Exhibit 10 Brings Training Camp Opportunity
Edwards’ deal with Denver is an Exhibit 10 contract — essentially a training camp invite that could convert to a standard league-minimum contract if he makes the regular season roster. The Nuggets currently have 14 players on guaranteed standard deals, and while they could carry Edwards as the 15th man, the team is already operating slightly above the tax line, making roster decisions more complex.
Edwards remained around the Mavericks as recently as Las Vegas Summer League, but roster spots were scarce entering the fall, especially after Dallas selected Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick.
The Mavericks currently have 16 players on standard deals, including an agreement in place with Danté Exum for a one-year veteran’s minimum contract that has yet to be officially signed, as DallasHoopsJournal.com has previously reported. Dallas will need to trim that number to 15 before the Oct. 20 deadline to set rosters for NBA Opening Day.
Chance to Fill Depth Role in Denver
The addition gives Denver a closer look at a potential three-and-D contributor who showed the ability to space the floor and provide energy on defense in Dallas. With Spencer Jones on a two-way deal and Hunter Tyson entering the final year of his contract, the Nuggets are evaluating options for a reliable defensive wing behind Cameron Johnson and Peyton Watson.
Training camp will provide Edwards an opportunity to carve out a role on a team with championship aspirations. Denver’s bench rotation remains an area of focus heading into the season, and Edwards’ performance in camp could determine whether he earns a spot to help bolster that group.
