After two seasons with the Miami Heat, Jaime Jaquez Jr. developed strong relationships within the team. However, following the early playoff exit in the 2024-25 NBA season, the Heat made major changes to their roster.
The Heat traded Kyle Anderson, Kevin Love, and Duncan Robinson this offseason. Moreover, they acquired Simone Fontecchio, Kasparas Jakucionis, and Norman Powell. Amid these significant changes, Jaquez has expressed his struggles with the difficult adjustment period following a frustrating sophomore season.
“It’s starting to become the reality. I think your rookie year, you go through it and it’s an adjustment. Now your second year, I think you really start to understand what it means to be in this business. Guys that you’ve built a relationship with are no longer going to be there. It’s definitely going to be an adjustment period, but we’re just really excited to get new guys and have this new team and try to win games,” Jaquez told FlexWork Sports (via Miami Herald).
On August 15, 2025, the Miami Heat traded Haywood Highsmith to the Brooklyn Nets along with a 2032 second-round pick. In return, they received a $5.6 million trade exception and a protected second-round pick in 2026. Additionally, after a prolonged feud with Jimmy Butler, they traded the superstar to the Golden State Warriors last season.

During the 2024-25 NBA season, Powell delivered impressive performances for the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 21.8 points, 2.1 assists, and 3.2 rebounds over 60 regular-season games. As he joins the Miami Heat, fans are looking forward to an even greater impact in the 2025-26 NBA season. Meanwhile, Jaquez recently shared his thoughts about Powell in an interview with FlexWork Sports.
“I’ve talked to him before at UCLA. I’ve actually randomly been to Six Flags with him. It was random. One time we were taking both of our girlfriends at the time on one of the rides and he like was just randomly behind me in line, and we ended up going on a ride together and it was pretty cool. So that’s a funny little story that we have together.” Jaquez said.
Jaquez played 66 games in his second season with the Heat, averaging 8.6 points, 2.5 assists, and 4.4 rebounds. He recently made headlines by sharing the remarkable story of his first meeting with his girlfriend.
