The Brooklyn Nets need to find a long-term head coach to succeed in the NBA.
Over the last few seasons, the Brooklyn Nets have gone from being a title contender to a bottom-feeder in the Eastern Conference.
While losing the likes of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden played a key role in it, the franchise’s inability to find a reliable head coach can also be blamed.
In the last three seasons, the Nets have changed their head coach four times. Right now, Jordi Fernandez is the man behind the clipboard for the Nets.

The Nets unquestionably made a huge mistake by parting ways with Kenny Atkinson in 2020. After all, Atkinson just won the 2024-25 NBA Coach of the Year award with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
However, there’s no point in having regrets about that. Right now, what the team can hope for is that Jordi Fernandez can transform the team.
Fernandez was named the team’s head coach at the start of the 2024-25 NBA season. In his first year, he led the Nets to a 26-56 record as they missed the postseason for the second straight year.
Prior to taking the helm of the Nets, Fernandez spent eight seasons as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets and the Sacramento Kings.
Considering Fernandez has a young roster at his disposal, featuring the likes of Cameron Johnson and Nic Claxton, he has a chance to revamp the team’s culture.
It’s still too early to judge Jordi Fernandez
While a 26-56 record is not good by any means, let’s not forget that Fernandez only has a one-year head coaching experience under his belt.
Many may rush and write off Fernandez as a lackluster head coach, but the 42-year-old has shown early signs of strong leadership.
It was proven by Fernandez’s reaction to the Nets suffering the largest defeat in franchise history last season. He showed nothing but support for his players after the Nets were handed a 59-point defeat by the LA Clippers.
Keeping that in mind, the Nets should give Fernandez his time, as he may build a winning culture in Brooklyn sooner rather than later.
