What’s different about the Giannis Antetokounmpo situation this offseason? Jim Owczarski discusses next moves for the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Milwaukee Bucks added another young veteran to their training camp roster Aug. 14 by signing 28-year-old wing Amir Coffey to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal.

NBA teams can bring up to 20 players to training camp, and the Bucks currently have 15 on guaranteed, or partially guaranteed contracts, the maximum allowed. The team also has three players on two-way contracts, the maximum allowed.

A league source confirmed the signing, originally reported by ESPN.

At 6-foot-7, 210 pounds, Coffey has played shooting guard and small forward in his first six years in the league with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Undrafted out of the University of Minnesota in 2019, Coffey gradually grew from a two-way contract player with current Bucks head coach Doc Rivers into a rotation player who just finished a three-year, $11 million deal under Rivers’ protégé, current Clippers head coach Ty Lue.

In his career, Coffey is a 38.4% 3-point shooter but shot 40.9% last season in 72 games (13 starts) for the Clippers. He also shot 38% in 2023-24 and 37.8% in 2021-22 on relatively high volume for his minutes.

Coffey has career averages of 9.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
