The last few months have been riddled with teams across the country starting to adjust to the new rules of college athletics. All they needed was the House vs. NCAA settlement to be final and new rules to go into effect.
That hit a wall just a few weeks ago, as Judge Claudia Wilkes told the NCAA and their attorneys that the settlement would not move forward without roster spots being grandfathered in. That came with a two-week timeline, and as of today, the NCAA has submitted its resolution to that problem brought up by the judge. According to Pete Nakos of On3, the proposal was submitted earlier this week.
Nakos reports the following:
“Under the plan, athletes who had their positions cut will be eligible for reinstatement at schools’ discretion. It also permits athletes who leave or not retained by their current school would keep grandfather status at a new school.”
Alongside profit sharing, roster scholarship limits have been the other major focus of this settlement. With expected increases across most sports, football (growing to 105) and basketball (growing to 15) will gain the most attention.
With those changes pending, we all wait to see what Judge Wilkes decides on the proposal. It should be an interesting week.
