QUINCY, Ill. (KHQA) — John Wood Community College officially has its next Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
Austin Banks will lead the program moving forward, the school officially announced Tuesday.
Banks stepped in as the interim head coach back in July following the resignation of Jonny Dahl. Dahl led the Blazers during the 2024-2025 season.
Now Banks gets the official head coach title.
“Coach Banks has worked extremely hard to recruit, retain and develop this year’s roster and has invested a lot into our student-athletes,” JWCC Athletic Director Adam Hightower said. “We had great candidates in the search, but we based our decision on what is best for our student-athletes at this time, and that is having Austin continue to lead this program.”
Banks previously served as an assistant coach in charge of player development for John Wood.
“I am honored to be given this opportunity to lead our guys and will do everything I can to ensure we compete and live up to the great reputation of Trail Blazer basketball,” Banks said.
Before joining JWCC, Banks was a high school coach and operated a private training academy in his home state of Florida.
Banks was also a four-year player at Iowa Wesleyan University.
