An NBA trade idea sending Anfernee Simons from the Boston Celtics to the Toronto Raptors has been created.
NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Celtics, Raptors and Brooklyn Nets:
Boston Celtics get: Terance Mann, Ochai Agbaji and a 2030 second-round pick from Toronto
Toronto Raptors get: Anfernee Simons
Brooklyn Nets get: RJ Barrett and a 2031 second-round pick from Boston
“When trying to figure out who might have some interest in Simons, it makes sense to check out the three-point leaderboards,” Bailey wrote. “And last season, Toronto was 29th in threes per game and 23rd in three-point percentage. That makes them an interesting landing spot for a guard who’s averaged 2.9 threes and shot 38.6 percent from deep over the last five seasons.”
The Celtics acquired Simons from the Portland Trail Blazers in the Jrue Holiday trade on July 7. Simons will make $27.7 million next season in the final year of his contract.
Simons averaged 19.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.1 blocks for the Trail Blazers last season in 70 games. He shot 42.6% from the field, 36.3% from beyond the arc and 90.2% from the free-throw line.
The 26-year-old Simons has career averages of 15.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.1 blocks in the NBA. He didn’t have an introductory press conference with Boston.
Thus far, the Celtics have struggled to find a trade for Simons, according to NBA insider Grant Afseth of FastbreakJournal.
“Sources told FastbreakJournal.com that Boston entered the offseason focused on shedding salary and had struggled to find a trade partner for Anfernee Simons’ contract since acquiring him in the Jrue Holiday trade. Simons remains a trade candidate to monitor,” Afseth wrote.
The Celtics lost to the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in six games, while the Raptors missed the postseason.
Toronto acquired Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans in February. Ingram will make his Raptors debut next season, as he didn’t play for his new team in 2024-25 due to an injury.
