The Dallas Mavericks shockingly won the right to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. After trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season, it was a stroke of luck to be able to help replace him with Cooper Flagg.
Flagg is a player who many believe could be a generational talent. He’ll be joining forces with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving to kick off his NBA career.
Ahead of his rookie season, Flagg has received a lot of bold takes from analysts. Most recently, a former NBA superstar spoke out with a high opinion of him.

Blake Griffin, who made six appearances at the NBA All-Star game throughout his career, did not hold back from revealing his thoughts on Flagg.

During an appearance on the “Post Moves” podcast, Griffin made a bold statement about Flagg.
“He is the most complete player we’ve seen come into the NBA in recent memory,” he said.
Entering his college career with the Duke Blue Devils, Flagg was already being talked about as the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft. He lived up to all of the hype and expectations that came with his move to Duke.
Throughout his one season with the Blue Devils, Flagg averaged 19.2 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from three-point range. He produced those numbers across 37 games played and led Duke to the Final Four.
As for his skill set, Flagg is a very unique player. Jason Kidd and the Mavericks expect to utilize him some at the point guard position. Flagg stands in at 6-foot-9 and 205 pounds.

Should he be able to play that role at a high level, he could create mismatch issues for opposing teams. Dallas could have a big lineup across the board.
Only time will tell if Flagg can live up to the hype once again. Doing it in the NBA will be much more difficult than at the college level.
It will be interesting to see what his rookie season has in store. At least when it comes to Griffin, Flagg has a good chance to be something very special.
