The Houston Rockets are already considering the long-term future of superstar Kevin Durant, after pulling off a blockbuster seven-team trade this offseason to bring him to Texas.
Durant is set to play the final season of his current deal, valued at about 54.7 million dollars. While no agreement has yet been finalized, there is growing belief that the two sides will eventually reach a new contract.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, “the Rockets and Kevin Durant have had discussions about a new contract and there is belief they will come to terms.”
Windhorst also mentioned that “Durant, just like LeBron James, is no longer viewed as the centerpiece of a franchise, as Houston builds around a young core of players it acquired through the draft.”
Even so, Durant, who turns 37 in September, remains one of the league’s most dangerous scorers.
Last season with the Phoenix Suns, he averaged 27.9 points per game with shooting splits of 53, 42, and 88 percent. He also contributed 6 rebounds and 4.2 assists while logging nearly 36 minutes per game.
