Should the Boston Celtics tank this season? On one hand, the Celtics front office have already done much of the work that would be needed for the storied ball club to join the ranks of the tank commander by dealing away Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Georges Niang and letting Luke Kornet and (presumably) Al Horford walk in free agency to cut salary in a season star Boston forward Jayson Tatum will miss most if not all of due to a torn Achilles tendon.

On the other hand, however, the team still has a strong core even after these moves and in Tatum’s absence, particularly given the weakness of the NBA’s Eastern Conference in the season ahead. And there is value in keeping a winning mentality for a club that hopes to return to contender status as soon as possible.
