Mario Chalmers collected another championship moment and made former Miami Heat teammate Michael Beasley a champion in the process in sparking Miami 305 to the Big3 championship Sunday in Orlando.
Off an assist from Beasley, Chalmers drained the game-winning 3-pointer to decide the 52-48 victory over the Chicago Triplets in the title game of the halfcourt three-on-three league.
For Chalmers, a member of the Heat’s championship teams in 2012 and ’13 alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, it gave him a championship on five different levels.

Chalmers, 39, previously won championships in high school in Alaska in 2002 and ’03, at Kansas in 2008, those two Heat titles, in FIBA’s Champions League in 2019 with Italy’s Virtus Bologna in 2019, and then Sunday’s championship on the Central Florida campus.
A year ago, Chalmers and Beasley fell short of the title in the Big3 championship game.
Beasley then bounced back this season for his second consecutive Big3 Most Valuable Player honor in Ice Cube’s league, eventually hoisting the championship trophy along with Miami 305 teammates Lance Stevenson, Reggie Evans, Sean Williams and Chalmers, each a former NBA player.

“Promises kept,” Beasley said during the championship ceremony in bouncing back from the loss in last season’s championship game.
Beasley, 36, led Miami 305 with a game-high 25 points Sunday, along with a game-high 12 rebounds. He was supported by 14 points from Stephenson. Chalmers, the team’s captain, scored just five, but stepped up when needed most, just as he did during Kansas’ dramatic Final Four-winning overtime victory in his college finale.
Beasley acknowledged looking for his own shot before passing to Chalmers for the winning basket.
“I actually told him to move,” Beasley admitted. “I wanted that shot. But, no, I mean he’s been doing it his whole life. He’s been doing it his whole career.”
Chalmers and Beasley entered the NBA together in 2008 with the Heat, Beasley as the No. 2 pick in that draft, Chalmers as a second-round pick.
Their Big3 team Sunday defeated a Chicago roster that featured former NBA players Montrezl Harrell and Amir Johnson.
Chalmers last played in the NBA in 2017-18 with the Memphis Grizzlies. He was added to the Heat roster amid the pandemic in December 2021 but never saw action on that emergency contract.
Beasley last played in the NBA in 2018-19 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
