The Indiana Pacers’ star Tyrese Haliburton won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. But it was not only the medal that created a memory; Haliburton made a surprising connection with Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid. Haliburton, who is rehabbing from a torn Achilles tendon, recalled his Olympic journey on the Impaulsive podcast.
The Pacers guard shared that being part of Team USA helped him build genuine friendships with the NBA stars. The Olympics brought the team closer off the court, and he enjoyed bonding with everyone, even though his playing time was limited.
Haliburton was surprised by how close he got to Joel Embiid. “He’s a cool** dude. I think he just is like he’s just wary of people. Like he keeps you at arm’s distance, you know? Like he doesn’t let a ton of people… He just keeps everybody kind of at a distance,” he said of Embiid. “Like, not many people are cool with Joel Embiid. I happen to be pretty cool with him. He FaceTimed me the other day, and I’m like, ‘You don’t call anybody.’”
Haliburton’s offseason seems entertaining. He recently appeared at WWE SummerSlam, interacting sarcastically with the New York fans. But his Olympic memory marks his nostalgic experience where he got the chance to build trust and form strong relationships.
Tyrese Haliburton Shared His Bond With Kevin Durant
Apart from Embiid, Haliburton gets to know more about Kevin Durant as well. They also became close friends during Team USA’s gold medal run at the 2024 Olympics. Since then, they have met up off the court, and Haliburton shared some funny insights about Durant’s personality on Logan Paul’s podcast.
Haliburton shared that while they text frequently, Durant’s replies are often Dry and lacking in emotion. “He’s just like, so dry. Like the driest person ever. Like I text him, and I use emojis, and I’m like, why am I using emojis? Cause he won’t even give me an LOL… I get nothing,”Haliburton added.
However, Haliburton admires Durant’s true personality when they meet in person, as he is much more engaging face-to-face.
