Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has been making his rounds on social media due to the amount of appearances he has made on podcasts and his Vlogs on his YouTube channel. Porter has made plenty of statements over the course of this summer, but he made his opinion known on who is the greatest NBA player in the history of the league.
During a livestream with plaqueboymax, Porter said “I’m going Nikola Jokic. The reason I say that is because he could have won MVP five years in a row. Can you name another player that could have won MVP five years?” Porter was asked on the livestream who he believes is the greatest player in the history of the NBA and it didn’t take him too long answer with his former teammate, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic.

Porter, the 14th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, spent six of his first seven seasons in the NBA playing on the same team as Jokic and during that time, Jokic won the MVP award in three of those six years. More to the point that Porter is making, Jokic finished second in MVP voting in two of the other three years that he didn’t win the award. Former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson offered his pushback against Porter’s statement.
“I like MPJ. I really do, but listen i have screamed this message loud and clear to the NBA,” Johnson wrote in a post on X responding to some of Porter’s quotes from the livestream on the topic. “all players before they enter the league should be required to take a 4 week class on the history of the League and then pass an exam. It would be so much better!”
As a frame of reference for what Porter and Johnson are saying, Jokic ranked as the 17th-best player in NBA history in Bleacher Report’s top-100 players list that the outlet published in July. However, the NBA did not have Jokic on its list of the top-75 players in NBA history that they released in October of 2021 nor did ESPN have Jokic on its top-76 players list that the network released in July of 2022. Porter seems to have his mind made up on Jokic.
