An NBA trade idea sending Malik Monk from the Sacramento Kings to the Orlando Magic has been created.

NBA writer Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Kings and Magic:

Sacramento Kings receive: Anthony Black and Jett Howard

Orlando Magic receive: Malik Monk and a 2031 first-round pick (via MIN)

Monk appeared in 65 games for the Kings last season. He averaged 17.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 43.9% from the field, 32.5% from beyond the arc and 86.5% from the free-throw line.

The 27-year-old Monk has career averages of 12.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers and Kings. He was the 11th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.

Monk will make $18.8 million next season. The Kings offered the shooting guard to the Golden State Warriors for restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, but the Warriors declined the offer.

The Magic lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. They acquired Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies this offseason. Orlando now has a “Big 3” of Bane, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

“Monk should find a fit as a spacer and quick-strike scorer, and the draft pick would be helpful to have after shipping out so many for Bane,” Buckley wrote.

Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton has already been ruled out for next season. Celtics forward Jayson Tatum may not play either. The Magic could make some serious noise in the East next season after acquiring Bane.

Adding Monk to the mix would only make Jamahl Mosley’s group more explosive on offense.
