Kristaps Porzingis revolutionized the Boston Celtics‘ offensive approach. The veteran big man immediately slotted into Joe Mazzulla’s roster and provided floor spacing and versatility on the interior. When Porzingis was on the floor, the Celtics seemed to be borderline unbeatable. Unfortunately, Porzingis struggled to stay healthy and has now been shipped to the Atlanta Hawks.

As such, the Celtics may need to locate a new floor-spacing big man who can score across all three levels and provide a versatile two-way impact. And that’s where Lauri Markkanen comes into the equation. The Utah Jazz star spent last summer being coveted by the Golden State Warriors before inking a contract extension with the Jazz. However, with Danny Ainge leading the way, Markkanen would likely be available for the right fee.

In a recent episode of NESN’s “Hold My Banner,” Adam Pellerin & George Balekji discussed a trade proposal they had found online that would send Markkanen to the Celtics. Both Pellerin and Balekji shared their thoughts on whether he would be the right addition for the Celtics, and what a fair deal could look like for both teams. Markkanen has been a standout player in the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket tournament, which may have increased his trade value around the NBA.
