The Philadelphia 76ers are perpetually the biggest “what if?” in the NBA, having failed to get over the hump that is the second round of the postseason since their “Process” began with injuries consistently removing their best players whenever the stakes are at their highest. When healthy, the makings of a championship contender are in place, but as time has proven, availability has never been their ability.Â
This 2025-26 season preview takes a look at all key betting odds for the Sixers as they once again attempt to prove that they can stay healthy when it matters most and finally reach the Eastern Conference finals and beyond.Â

The career of 2023 Most Valuable Player winner Joel Embiid will sadly be remembered more so for the time he’s missed since entering the league in 2014 as opposed to the unworldly basketball talent he possesses as a 7-foot center. His 2024-25 campaign after signing a three-year, $193-million extension was once again derailed by numerous ailments, with a left knee injury being a huge factor in the 63 games he missed before electing to undergo arthroscopic surgery to address the issue. Philadelphia is just 32-74 over the past two seasons whenever Embiid is absent, and while he’s not a one-man show with the likes of All-Stars Tyrese Maxey and Paul George next to him, the team’s chances of achieving any success beyond what they’ve already accomplished over the last decade falls heavily on the big man’s broad shoulders.Â
Some good fortune fell the Sixers’ way when they moved up in the 2025 draft to secure the No. 3 overall pick as opposed to potentially dropping to the seventh selection and losing it to the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder. That pick was ultimately used to take the athletic V.J. Edgecombe, who just averaged 2.1 steals in his one-and-done season at Baylor and has tremendous upside as a two-way presence. There’s not much in place behind Embiid in the frontcourt, but having the three-headed monster of Maxey, Edgecombe, and Jared McCain in the backcourt gives Philly fans something to be excited about if you know what hits the fan.Â
Embiid’s left knee may never fully recover, and that’s something the Sixers’ front office will continue losing plenty of sleep over after giving him the aforementioned extension. George’s best days are behind him, as well, and he also missed half of the 2024-25 campaign because of injury. Maxey should be billed as the new franchise cornerstone, and McCain was looking like a runaway Rookie of the Year winner prior to suffering a meniscus tear in his knee. The structure of an above-average team is in place, but who knows how often we’ll even be able to see them. Fool me one, shame on me. Fool me 100 times …Â

Best Bet: OVER 42.5 wins, -110
Setting the bar at 42.5 wins is essentially envisioning the best-case scenario unfolding across the board with Embiid seeing the floor more than he doesn’t, George turning back the clock, and Edgecombe helping fortify the defense out of the gate. Everything that could have gone wrong last season absolutely did, so it can’t possibly get any worse.Â
The top-end of the East is vulnerable enough for teams outside of the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks to establish themselves in the mix, and Philadelphia was a top-four seed from 2020 through 2023 at the very least. This wager could backfire once those injury reports start getting full, and that’s going to happen at some point if recent is any indicator. For now, optimism will lead us by the hand to the stronger value and we’ll hope for the best.Â

Best Bet: Jared McCain for NBA Sixth Man of the year, +1200
It was only a 23-game window before he got hurt, but McCain’s 15.3 points on 46-percent shooting and 38.3 percent from 3-point range were superior numbers to that of Rookie of the Year winner Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs. That output could have even improved over time considering how depleted the roster eventually got, but McCain himself couldn’t avoid a similar fate. The hope here is that his production can carry over and benefit head coach Nick Nurse as more of a sixth man with the assumption being that Edgecombe will slot into the starting lineup alongside Maxey and George because of his defensive intangibles. If not Edgecome, then Quentin Grimes could get the nod because he’s got roughly four inches on McCain.Â
As of writing, McCain is tied with two other players for the third-shortest odds to win the John Havlicek trophy, but the difference between that group and the players with a stronger chance (De’Andre Hunter and Naz Reid) isn’t that vast. Philadelphia hasn’t had a Sixth Man of the Year winner since Aaron McKie in 2001, and McCain’s teammate Kelly Oubre Jr. could also emerge as a threat in these conversations depending on how the minutes are allocated. Truth be told, McCain simply building off the start he had his rookie year and avoiding a sophomore regression would be a massive win, even if his efforts aren’t enough to be recognized in this capacity.Â
