Chet Holmgren opened up on his previous season with the OKC Thunder and what he’s doing to improve ahead of the new campaign.

Chet Holmgren has developed into one of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s brightest stars since joining the league in 2022.

While he missed his first season due to an injury, he put up a great fight against Victor Wembanyama in 2024 to try and snag the Rookie of the Year award.

And last season, Holmgren played a huge part in the Thunder’s journey to the NBA championships. For his efforts, Holmgren was rewarded with a $250 million contract extension.

But he didn’t just earn this contract through good performances. As it turns out, Holmgren had to overcome a lot of pain to stay on the court for the Thunder.

Chet Holmgren recently did a Q&A session on Snapchat with his fans. When one fan asked Holmgren what they could expect to see from him next season, he gave an interesting response.

Holmgren admitted that he enters every NBA season with a new skill set that he works on. However, his injuries last season impacted how much of it he could show off.

And if the Thunder’s role for him allows him to show off his newly learned skills from this summer, fans are in for a treat.

“I come back with something every summer, something new, something that I work on. I just gotta stay healthy.

“Last year, I was getting to all my different spots at the beginning, but I got hurt, and I didn’t quite feel like me when I came back.

“I came back pretty quickly, so I was able to get right this summer, and I feel like I got a lot more to show.

“It also depends on what the team needs me to do with situations. I end up seeing out there how other teams are guarding me, so I feel like I’ll work on what I see, and I’ll feel pretty good about where I’m at once the season starts.

Chet Holmgren will have more responsibility next season

Chet Holmgren had the luxury of being the Oklahoma City Thunder’s unknown commodity over the last two years.

His unique skill set, coupled with his limited appearances and the increased attention that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams attracted, allowed him to pick his spots and plug in and out on his own terms.

But now that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams have become bona fide All-Stars and teams will be better prepared to handle them on the offensive end.

As such, Holmgren will have to shoulder a much greater responsibility on the offensive end next season to compensate for any drop-off in production from either All-Star.
