One of the most talked-about stories of the NBA restricted free agency period has finally come to an end, namely that involving Cam Thomas and the Brooklyn Nets.
For months, in fact, the two sides remained far from reaching an agreement on contract renewal. Thomas wanted a very lucrative contract, worth almost $30 million per season, but the Nets were not at all willing to pay that amount.
No other team this offseason had the salary cap space to offer Thomas a contract that would lure him away from the Nets, and now we have reached the conclusion that many have been expecting for several weeks.
Cam Thomas will sign the $6 million qualifying offer on his contract, which will allow him to remain with the Nets next season but also to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026, so that he can return to the market and seek a contract closer to his demands.
The news was reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The Brooklyn Nets guard has therefore decided to bet on himself, rejecting the Nets’ offer, which he considered too low.
In the last NBA season, Thomas played only 25 games due to an injury that forced him to miss several months of action.
Despite playing only a few games, however, the Nets player has put up impressive numbers, averaging 24 points, 4 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game.
