Guerschon Yabusele’s first season with the Philadelphia 76ers turned out to be his last. After just one year, the Sixers chose not to extend him an offer in free agency and instead dealt him to the New York Knicks during the offseason. This came after the Sixers did not make an offer for him during his free agency.

After this frustrating offseason, Yabusele is now focused on EuroBasket 2025. That focus, however, came to a frustrating end on Sunday. France suffered a tough 80-70 loss to Georgia that knocked them out of contention for the quarterfinals.

The tension boiled over during his postgame interview. When a Georgian reporter celebrated loudly nearby, Yabusele quickly cut in.

“Hey, hey we’re talking here. Calm down. You the journalist, you not a player,” Yabusele said.

Yabusele contributed 12 points, three assists, and three rebounds in 30 minutes of play against Georgia. France’s top scorer on the night was Sylvain Francisco, who posted 14 points along with four rebounds.

Most recently Francisco drew notice for a lighthearted moment at the end of the Serbia vs. France game. He exchanged a dap with Luka Doncic before driving for a layup, even as most of the players were already shaking hands.

HoopsHype’s recently placed Guerschon Yabusele at No. 25 in his list of the top 26 power forwards in the NBA. Despite the modest ranking, Urbina praised the French forward for his impact during his lone season with the 76ers.

“French forward Guerschon Yabusele enjoyed a solid return campaign to the NBA, providing the Philadelphia 76ers with exactly what they were expecting: stout defending, solid rebounding, and some scoring from beyond the arc and around the basket. Now, Yabusele will be tasked with providing the same to a team with actual expectations, as the New York Knicks project to be much healthier – and more ready – to compete for a title in 2025-26 than Philadelphia,” the report read.

In his lone season with the Sixers, Yabusele played in 70 games. In those games, he averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. The Knicks are now counting on him to bring that same energy.
