The sister of Minnesota Timberwolves player Naz Reid, Toyara Reid, died from injuries sustained in a shooting at the Paragon housing complex in Jackson, New Jersey; her boyfriend was charged with murder, authorities said on Monday.

Police arrived at the Paragon housing complex in Jackson around 11:00 a.m. Saturday after reports of a shooting. There they found Toyara Reid, 28, dead near an exit from the complex; according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Bilheimer, she had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers also spotted Shakwila Green, 29, of Jackson, who was running along a nearby road, and he was soon taken into custody without incident.

In addition to the murder charge, Green also faces two firearm charges. Bilheimer said Reid and Green had previously been in a ‘romantic relationship’, but no further details were released.

Green remained jailed on Monday, and prosecutors did not know whether he had an attorney.

Reid, 25, a New Jersey native and former standout in his state, is preparing for his seventh season with Minnesota and recently signed a five-year contract with the team. He was named the NBA ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ for the 2023–2024 season.

Reid’s agents did not respond to requests for comment on Monday.

Jackson is a city in southern New Jersey, about 50 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
