Even though training camp is less than a month away, that doesn’t make the offseason any less boring or fly by faster. As NBA players enjoy the last few weeks before returning to the day-to-day grind of a regular season, Josh Giddey floated out there an idea.
One of Giddey’s favorite time-wasting activities is answering fan questions on social media. A recent interaction has ruffled some feathers. The former Oklahoma City Thunder player entertained the idea of a possible reunion down the road.
A social media user asked Giddey to “Bring Chet to the Chi,” implying that the Chicago Bulls should trade for Chet Holmgren. Giddey responded by taking Holmgren with an interesting emoji face that suggests he’d at least entertain the hypothetical reunion.
Of course, Thunder fans went defensive with the silly proposal. They swatted away Giddey’s thought, akin to when a guard drives to the basket against Holmgren. I wouldn’t read too much into the short answer. It’s just an NBA player teasing a former teammate that he still has a relationship.
Considering how the offseason has played out, this isn’t even on the cards. Holmgren signed a five-year, $250 million contract extension. He will be in OKC through the 2030-31 season. The 23-year-old helped the Thunder capture an NBA championship as the third-best player in their playoff run.
Meanwhile, Giddey remains in a blinking contest with the Bulls. After a successful first year, both sides remain far away from a contract extension. Chicago acquired the 22-year-old in a one-for-one trade with Alex Caruso in the 2024 NBA offseason.
While a Holmgren to the Bulls trade proposal is a harmless thought, it’s still humorous to see the reactions. The only real conclusion you can draw from it is that everybody is ready for the NBA to start back up, so we can’t be bored out of our minds.
