The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball team swept visiting Shaw on Tuesday to move to 4-0 on the season. This was the Bears’ final tune up before heading to St. Augustine, Florida, for the Flager Saints Classic this weekend.
Nine different Bears registered a kill tonight, led by ten from Kayli Cleaver. Sydney Karjala led the Bears with 14 assists.
The first set was back and forth early as LR had a narrow 9-8 lead before a quick 5-0 run helped the Bears control the set. The run was highlighted by a pair of kills from freshman Addison Vary. Eight different Bears registered a kill in the opening set as LR hit .333% to win 25-15.
The second set started like the first set as Shaw kept it close early but Bears pulled away midway through the set. Averie Dale finished the set in style with back to back monster kills then a solo block to end the set.
With the final set tied at 16, the Bears finished the match strong by scoring nine of the games last ten points.
Lenoir-Rhyne had double digit aces for the second time this season. Dale finished with six kills, four digs, two assists and two blocks to stuff the stat sheet. Hallie Brown continued her strong play at the net with four blocks. Sydney Karjala led the way with 14 assists while Hadley Prince had 11 digs.
Emmaleigh Allen is now three digs away from 600 career digs. LR moved to 7-1 all-time vs Shaw. Shaw has made back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and finished 30-5 last season. Hallie Brown came into the game leading the SAC with 1.38 blocks per set.
The Bears will hit the road for the first time this season as they will head to St. Augustine, Florida for the Flager Saints Classic. Lenoir-Rhyne will play two games on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday, LR will play a pair of games against teams that made the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year in Embry-Riddle and Flager. On Saturday they take on a familiar foe in Lees-McRae then close out the tournament against Ashland. First serve for Friday’s match against Embry-Riddle is 11 a.m.
