Victor Wembanyama may have upset some San Antonio Spurs fans with what he said about Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant.

Victor Wembanyama is the heir apparent to Tim Duncan on the San Antonio Spurs. The French superstar is very much considered his successor as the face of the franchise.

Wembanyama is absolutely phenomenal. Much like Duncan, Wemby has size but is immensely skilled. And he relies a lot on his fundamentals to get to the basket.

Wembanyama also has a lot of admiration for legendary big men of the past. Most recently, Wemby worked out with Hakeem Olajuwon, someone Duncan modelled a lot of his game after.

But Wemby may have drawn the ire of some San Antonio Spurs fans with his latest comments about Duncan and Kobe Bryant.

Victor Wembanyama did a livestream on the San Antonio Spurs’ Instagram channel. When a fan asked him to pick between Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant, he shockingly picked the latter.

“Tim Duncan or Kobe? Tough question. Probably Kobe, all-time. Um, actually, I don’t know…”

NBA fans took to X to react to these comments. One Spurs quickly corrected everyone, saying, “He said, ‘Actually, I don’t know.’

While another fan joked, “My guy’s heart dropped once he realized he just said. On a SPURS LIVE!”

One fan didn’t see where the uproar came from, saying, “I mean, he’s not wrong… Are y’all forgetting who Kobe was?”

Whereas one LA Lakers fan joked, “Wemby to the Lakers confirmed.”

A fan actually praised Wembanyama for his choice, writing, “Wemby knows ball, wow.”

Victor Wembanyama has a long way to go to match Tim Duncan’s legacy

While some San Antonio Spurs fans will be unhappy with what Victor Wembanyama said, it’s hard to really find fault in his comments.

Both Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are two of the best players of their generation, and are similarly decorated as individuals.

For Wemby, his only concern with Duncan should be trying to replicate an ounce of the success he had with the San Antonio Spurs.

If Wembanyama can bring championship glory to San Antonio like Duncan did, he will cement himself as an all-time great in the history of the franchise.
