Being a star in high school and college may mean you will probably end up in the NBA one day, but it doesn’t guarantee that you will become a big name or even have a long career. Plenty of NBA prospects suffered the same fate, and it seems that will be the case with Cam Reddish.
The 10th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft has signed with BC Siauliai, a club in the Lithuanian league. In what seems to be a surprising turn of events, the 6’8″ forward is going overseas after just six NBA seasons to get a fresh start. While many expected Reddish to become a star due to his undeniable skill set and intangibles, the stars simply haven’t aligned for him.

Darius Songalia, a former NBA player and BC Siauliai’s new head coach, reacted to the big signing and reflected on Cam’s undeniable talent.
“It’s hard to say why his NBA path stopped at this point. I’ve worked with many talented players who couldn’t establish themselves there — a lot of factors play a role,” Songaila said about Reddish.
A fresh start?
In his first two-and-a-half NBA seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, Reddish showed promise, averaging 11.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game on 38.5 percent from the floor. His size and shooting stroke were evident, but the lack of efficiency, defense and ability to create shots from himself or others that graced him during his days with the Duke Blue Devils simply weren’t there. As a result, Cam got put in a box of a mere 3&D role player.

Reddish got traded and spent some time with the Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks before eventually signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent the past two seasons with the Purple & Gold, and despite instances in which Cam showed value and got praised by LeBron James, there simply wasn’t enough reliability for a championship-hungry team led by LBJ.
In the 2024-25 season, Reddish appeared in only 33 games, playing 17.8 minutes per night while averaging 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest. It was evident that Cam was on a downward spiral, but the move to Europe surprised many. If the 26-year-old had signed with a known EuroLeague team, the turn of events would have made more sense, but he signed with a squad that is only competing in the domestic Lithuanian league and not in any major European competitions.
“His athleticism and physique are definitely top-level. I have no doubt he’ll be able to cover several positions for us,” Darius added. “European basketball is getting faster and faster, and we believe he’ll fit in well.”

Reddish has respect around the NBA
What makes Reddish’s case even more curious is that he evidently has game and respect from peers around the league. Naz Reid even recently said that Cam was the best player in the 2019 Draft Class, which featured the likes of Zion Williamson, Ja Morant and RJ Barrett.

“Just the way he scored the ball, he was too pure,” Reid said during his appearance on the “Run the Race” podcast. “He was just like a bucket, like that’s just what he was…I don’t really know too much, but if you ask anybody in that class, even in the class under, ’cause they watch us obviously, they would tell you Cam is him.”
Anthony Edwards, Reid’s Minnesota Timberwolves teammate and one of the best players in the game, also once told a hilarious story about seeing Reddish in high school and being in disbelief at how easily he could get buckets.
“Cam Reddish. He cold,” Ant said to Ballislife.

It is worth noting that Reddish has an exit clause for the 2025-26 season, so any EuroLeague or NBA team can pick up his services if Cam shows that he still belongs on the highest level of basketball. Now, it’s up to him to restore his career from the ground up and maybe finally reach the potential that is evident.
