The Jazz have never won the No. 1 pick in franchise history.

(Nam Y. Huh | The Associated Press) Guard Collin Sexton, right, the Utah Jazz’s onstage representative at the NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, makes his way to the dais before the team subsequently was revealed to have received the No. 9 pick.

They are buying amulets in Tokyo and gathering around television sets across Utah.

Jazz fans around the world are collectively preparing and praying, each in their own way, for the NBA Draft Lottery tonight. But they are all hoping this season’s treacherous tank will result in the No. 1 pick and presumably Cooper Flagg in Utah purple.

Utah has a 14% chance of landing the top prize — the same odds as the Hornets and the Wizards. Because they finished with the worst record in the league, they are guaranteed a top-five pick.

But that might not be as good as it sounds.

This draft thins out quickly after Flagg goes off the board. If the Jazz do land at No. 5, they could be gambling on prospects like Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe.
